America looks like a land of glittering opportunity where you can “chill” and nothing in the world matters, while some aspects are true America is just like any other country in the world. American living is not as easy as it looks, it takes work to make it in the U.S
Here are five mistakes most African’s make in their imagination of America.
Every American has money
Not American is loaded with an obscene amount of money they just throw around. There are poor people in America just like there are poor people in Nigeria or any developing country. Africans work as hard or twice as more as the American man does, the only difference is that America has a steady government and not as corrupt as fiscally corrupt as some African countries. The American government wants to make sure the unemployment rate remains low, but not every American has money.
Every African that moves to America automatically has money.
While the U.S. is the country with many rags to riches stories, it’s not an instant process. Many Africans believe that if a friend or relative moves abroad then it easier to make money, but it is not. It’s also difficult to make money in America, unless you’re well connected everyone has to start from the bottom to get to the top. For most Africans that move overseas it might even be more difficult making money overseas than making money in your own home.
Most Africans believe it is easy to get the “American Dream.”
The question we need to ask ourselves is that is there anything such as an “American Dream?” For some people they believe the American Dream exist but for some it does not. Some people have moved overseas and made it, but some people are still struggling. Making money anywhere in the world is difficult, but try and make the money in your home first before you run to another man’s land to make money that you are not even sure of.
Some Africans believe African students in America are “enjoying.”
Africans that come to America to study are actually studying. Students were sent to America for a reason, to get a good education and make something out of their lives. Most African students don’t go to parties all the time or go out to the clubs and “turn up.” Majority of them are in their dorms or apartments doing homework, playing the game or watching tv. It is not as fun as people think.
There are no homeless people.
We see a lot of poverty in developing countries and people think America is poverty free. The reality TV shows don’t show that side of life in the U.S, but there is poverty. The government provides aid to homeless people in America like: shelter and food.
