Zmapp was a sign of hope after treatment proved effective for two Americans.
With a rising a death toll and Ebola spiraling out of control, Zmapp offered a glimmer of hope to curb casualties. Though not approved by the FDA, Zmapp was given to West African doctors after curing two American’s of the deadly virus. However, the much anticipated treatment was ineffective in a case with Liberian doctor Abraham Borbor.
Borbor, The National Deputy Chief Medical Doctor in Liberia, died from Ebola virus despite taking the experimental drug, ZMapp. Late Dr. Borbor contracted the deadly virus while attending to Ebola patients at the John F. Kennedy Medical Centre in Monrovia.
Liberia’s Minister of Information Lewis Brown announced his death to reporters in Monrovia this morning and said the late doctor was improving as at yesterday August 24th but suddenly took ill and died.
Borobor was one of two doctors U.S. President Obama approved to receive the experimental drug. It’s unknown if this is an isolated case or if there were complications with administering the drug and stabilizing Borbor’s condition.
