The Governor of Kwara state, Abdulfatah Ahmed, terminated the appointments of the State Executive Council. Isiaka Gold, the Secretary to the state government, announced the news today, October 23Executive Council meeting; stated the layoffs were effective immediately.


News Agency of Nigeria reports that all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants, have been relieved of their duties.

Former Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimongo, responded on behalf of the former members of the executive council, thanking the governor for the opportunity to serve the people of the state while promising the governor of their continued allegiance to his administration.


Elections are 16 months away, and several Nigerian governors have been dissolving cabinets, with a view to appoint people with electoral value. A month ago, the Governor of Oyo state Abiola Ajimobi sacked the secretary to the state government, chief of staff as well as all the commissioners and special advisers. Is Nigerian government letting federal employees go with the intent of making real changes in Naija? Only time will tell.
