Madame Noire

If you take a survey on long-distance relationships, the vast majority of people would say they won’t work. Then there are those in the minority, like me, who actually don’t mind a long-distance relationship, and in some instances, actually prefer them. Before you think I also like imaginary boyfriends, let me explain my reasoning.

Currently I have a lot going on; but unlike many of the well-known figures that many of us admire who also have busy schedules, I have a lot to do and none of it really supplies enough money or sole opportunity.  With that being said, I am still basically in the process of trying to make it, so most of my time is devoted to my dreams.

Some days I get so caught up in my work that the thought of a relationship is the furthest thing from my mind. I can barely juggle my workload and sometimes the mere thought of adding a man to the mix overwhelms me.

Then there are those other days when I have time to sit and relax and I wish I had someone to talk to or relax with me. Or times when I phone my family or girlfriends with exciting or not so good news and wish that the next person on my call-list was my man.

So as I’m in in the process of working hard and trying to learn more about myself while also needing a bit of male companionship, a long-distance relationship doesn’t seem half-bad. I’m allowed to have a lot of ‘me’ time and would get breaks when I visit him or vice versa. Those phone conversations could be an intricate part of my happiness when I need someone to talk to; but the distance can be favorable towards my growth when I need time to figure things out.

Long-distance relationships often get criticized because as the saying goes ‘when the cats away, the mice will play,’ but if my mouse wants to play, no matter how close we live to each other, he can find a way to cheat.

I’m not downplaying the level of effort it takes to make a long distance relationship work, and the level of trust may have to exceed that of a close proximity relationship. What I am saying is that long distance relationships could prove beneficial to the girl whose free time is close to non-existent, but she still wants male companionship. Plus, meeting up with your man for a getaway can also be healthier for your sanity. You can leave your work at home and give him your undivided attention for a few days–then back to your regularly scheduled program.

Now, this process doesn’t have to be forever. Eventually you want to move closer and spend more time face-to-face getting to know each other; but who says you have to give up on the relationship until you’re physically closer to each other?

Ladies, before you disregard a man because of the distance between the two of you, consider the benefits of a long-distance relationship, especially if you’re a woman who already has a zillion things going on in her life. A long distance relationship allows you to have love and space at the same time.

Ladies, is a long-distance relationship something you would consider or immediately walk away from?
