Sometimes life isn’t always sweet. Shuga portrays young people living it up in the clubs, bars and student hangouts of Lagos, but underneath it all lies a bitter-sweet tale of love and betrayal among a group of friends living in the city.
In an effort to talk about sex more openly and curb the spread of HIV, MTV Staying Alive Foundation and MTV Base Africa have returned with another addition of the lifestyle based drama series Shuga.
Witty lines, provocative themes and heart wrenching story lines will keep you glued to your seat. This seasons is set in Nigeria for the first time after two series in Nairobi.
The script and plot are on point, accurately capturing the essence and situations young people face. It’s a fresh concept with a raw view on the lives of sexually active young people, and highlights the risks associated with unprotected sex and living careless lifestyles, all told through interconnected storylines.
Tiwa Savage said at the premiere, “I’m so excited to be a part of this project. Working on Shuga has enlightened all of us on a number of societal issues that need to be out there. This season, I am sure Shuga will go a very long way”
As the 8 episodes unfold, the secrets that everyone has kept hidden from those they love will come to light. They’ll also be forced to face and accept their own realities, which they’ve been running from.
Shuga is directed by Biyi Bandele and includes some of Nollywood’s most influential stars such as: Ice Prince,Iyanya, Maria Okanrende, Tiwa Savage, Chris Attoh, Nick Mutuma, and Sharon Chisom Ezeamaka.

When Femi returns from Nairobi to Lagos, a long standing secret upsets the relationship between his music promoter friend Ekene, and Ekene’s girlfriend Foye.
Episode 2
When Sophie (Dorcas Shola Fapson) discovers that Solomon (Sani Mu’azu) her “aristo” lover is HIV positive, she goes to tell ex-boyfriend Ekene (Okezie Morro) that they need to get tested. We also meet young married couple Malaika (Leonora Okine) and Nii (Chris Attoh) whose differing views about their relationship soon turn to conflict.
